Difference between fairway woods, hybrids, and irons? And good set of beginner clubs?
Aside from looks what is the difference between a 3wood, 2hybrid, and 2iron. Depending on brand they might have a few degress different loft or whatever. The reason im asking is im trying to get a set together for myself. I will be new to golf. Im leaning towards the Nike Ignite said which has the 3iron replaced w/ a hybrid or the wilson DI 5 hybrid set which replaced the 4 and 5 irons with hybrids. So im getting the iron set, driver, and putter. I would like to get one more club but dont know what it should be? 3wood, 2iron, 1hybrid? Any thoughts here? What about clubs, aside from the 2 i mentioned im looking at Adams undercut gt 500, or Cleveland launcher. These very in price so i dont know what to do. I want a club that will last a while if i take care of it, it needs to be forgiving cuz im new, but yet I want a set that I can still play in 2-3 yrs when i get better? So any thoughts on good set of beg. irons, those mentioned or any other ones under $400?
My coach told me to just set aside the ‘long’ irons (up to the 5) because they are simply too hard to swing accurately for most golfers, even experienced ones.
I have, instead, two hybrids that replace the 4 and 5, and I use them for long shots from the fairway or shorter grass.
Also, I have a 9-wood. It’s easy to swing and aim, but not as long as a driver. While it’s called a ‘fairway’ wood, I use it on the fairway and along the rough — although once I lose a ball in tall grass, I give it up. The 9-wood gets some loft, so it’s been very reliable in getting my ball back ONTO the fairway, and to make progress down the middle. OK, it sacrifices some distance, but that’s an easy trade for confidence.
