After what brain surgery, instead of the tumor??

My boyfriend had surgery to remove a brain tumor type 2 astrocytoma the size of a golf ball. We went to Mass General and supposedly have the best doctor, but he isn't really good in answering our questions. What is at the tumor site after removal of its head? I know you put a plate on the skull, but what happens underneath. She had a crainomy. She also has Huntington's disease, but symptoms did not, she is 32. Should I look for radiation?
