Can someone enlighten me on a golf rule please?
This is the situation. I was playing # 18, which has a level of 3 green. The flag was in the front or lowest level. My approach shot landed in the bottom level and part rolled into the second level and stopped. I marked the ball, collected and lined up my putt (rough side of a hill / downhill putt) When I tried to put the ball on the green in front of my score would not stay in place. Whenever I dropped the ball, which rolled down the hill to the lower level. I must have tried a dozen times to get the ball to sit on the hill side are. By Finally, because it was a round with friends, I just moved the ball up the middle and a putt from there. If this were a tournament or a serious departure from what should Course I have done and what is the rule to cover something like this?

If a ball when placed stops at the place where the post and then moves, there is no penalty and the ball is played as it lies, unless the provisions of any applicable law.
