Visualize the shot … develop a pre-shot routine consisting … write strategy.
All the greats have visualized your golf shots and putts before actually making the move. Visualization helps the player to commit to a target and flight path to that goal. This in turn sends the information to the muscles to the first condition or the body for what it is to do.
Picture of the ball landing on your goal and the ball is going to do. Then back following the flight line and pretend to swing. How do you feel, including the pace, impact and follow through? It's amazing how the mind and body. Once you have the shot in your mind that is willing to believe that it will be conducted.
The pre-shot routine that often includes the display of the photo is the habit that you develop to get mentally prepared to execute a shot. It helps you relax and focused on getting the shot in the hand.
The difference between professionals and amateurs is in the quality and consistency of their routines. A pre-shot routine is very similar to hypnosis in that you are trying in a very short period of time, just before the shot, basically, to clear her mind to focus on the task. Professional practice their routines before each shot allowing them to put their minds to rest and assure of eliminating negative thoughts. Too often fans think about the possibilities that open the door to fear.
Pre-shot routines can include adjustment of the golf glove to make sure it is safe, holding the Golf Club at an angle to get their hands on the grip and make sure the clubface is open; step behind the ball to choose their destiny and find a spot 3 to 4 meters in front of the ball to concentrate the establishment of the feet following the goal and the ball ensuring that they are balanced and then take a good practice swing before hitting the ball. (This is just one example. The key is to develop something that is easily repeatable and something that helps you concentrate on the task at hand.)
Finally, we have a written strategy that can be found at each tee as to what we do in each hole. Remember one thing, 60-70% of all strokes are taken within 100 meters of the hole. If you are going to make measurable improvements in your game, you should get a handle on the short game, no matter what you do off the tee. Yet amateur golfers continue to lose strokes around the green.
In viewing the photos of what I mentioned the ball is going to be around the target. The only way is to understand what the ball is going to do on impact and then how the action of ball is going to affect what happens when you land. This requires not only knowledge of his swing, but knowledge of how are the conditions affect the ball with his swing. And although we can see the street from the tee and have a pretty good idea of where we want to put the shot, generally do not understand all the subtleties of 100 yards in.
Ben Hogan was known for walking at night before a tournament to observe the subtleties of the course – as I said "to look at the tricks and traps."
