Snow Golf is a sport based in golf, played on the snow (or ice) instead of grass. The "greens" are called "white" and have a surface ice.
On the Golf Classic Golf Snow origin is believed to be the Dutch game of "Kolf" which is played from the Middle Ages. Evidence Kolf as a popular winter pastime comes from 17th century numerous paintings by the renowned artist and Aert van der Neer or Hendrick Avercamp.
The discovery of golf modern snow is attributed to Rudyard Kipling, living in Vermont in the 1890s, he was a keen golfer. While writing his famous book The Jungle Book, Kipling relaxed by playing golf during the winter snow.
The annual World Ice Golf Championship has been held on the world during the platform nothernmost GILF ice near Uummannaq, Greenland since 1997. The course is in shape again by the moving ice every year and the game is highly dependent on weather conditions. Competitors are allowed 36 or less handicap. Due to extreme temperatures clubs with graphite shafts are not recommended.
The first Snowgolf Championship in Argentina was held at Cerro Castor, Ushuaia since 2007, Jose Garcia Daroca.
The first World Championship for amateurs Snowgolf was out in January 2007 in Abtenau, Austria. With Adi Hengstberger of Germany was founded Snowgolf the first World Champion. The event is organized like a celebrity event in Austria and sponsored by the state of Salzburg as part of the tourism system. The second Snowgolf World Championship held in Obertauern, Austria. With the help "Million Dollar Putt, "the official championship golf in the title of the snow was the greatest honor for an amateur golf event in the world until now. Besides the amateur competitors, many of the biggest names in sport and entertainment are trying to sink their "Million Dollar Putt" for important causes – "Wings for Life" (Spinal Cord Research Foundation) and "Eagles Charity Golf Club. In the end nobody could pull off the big putt, and the prize remains unclaimed till the next championship. Adi Hengstberger (D) retained his title in 2007. The finalists were Tristan David (Philippines) and Peter Dobrowolsky (Austria). Women in the new World Champion was Sarah Hölzl (Austria).
