What’s the best way to pick a golf ball for my golf game?
I am 64, hit my drives 250-265 yards, and with a slight natural draw–when I hit it well. I am a 13 handicapper, willing to give-up distance for more accuracy.
My swing speed is around 95-100.
Since you’re above the “average”, and you give the ball a good smack off the tee, you should focus on what the ball does around and on the green, while not totally ignoring your driver. In my opinion, I’d start with a Tour level ball, like the Pro V1, V1x or NXT Tour, the NikeTour D or One Black, the Bridgestone B-330RX or e5+, the Srixon Z-Star, or the Callaway i or ix. Those will offer the most spin while still offering good distance. Buy single sleeves if you can, to keep the cost of the test down.
Start on the green. If it sounds/feels good off your putter (putting is just as much what you hear as you feel) move off the green. Do 10, 20 and 30 yard chips/pitches. If it feels good and spins how you want it to, move back to 100 yards- hit full GW or PW shots to the green- if the results are good, move to 150 yards and do it over again. Lastly, take it to the tee and have a rip. If the flight characteristics (flight, hang time, distance, accuracy) are what you’re looking for… congrats, you’ve found your ball.
It sounds like a lot of work, and it can be, but the results of an unbiased test will more than make up for it.
