Does humidity have an effect on Golf Ball Distance at sea level when the salt in the air humidity is high near a beach?
When practice Golf in Puerto Vallarta in a heavy sea my ball traveled about 10% less than in northern California on a normal day, say, 80 degrees at sea level. In Puerto Vallarta was 27 meters above sea level and about 92 degrees with high humidity.
Humidity and temperature will both have an effect on distance traveled. wet the air temperature itself is less dense and warmer air is also less dense, so the initial idea would be to wait any longer trips at higher temperatures and humidity. However, the dimples on a golf ball is designed to help distance the aerodynamic lift. It is possible that the reduction in density affected the proper functioning of the dimples (or just reduced). Perhaps the ideal loft for maximum distance changes based on the density of air.
